FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM AND DEVELOPMENT OF FIRE

Did you ever imagine how the fire is developed and the phases that the fire passes one another to reach its final shape?

When a fire breaks out it passes into phase and it develops between them to reach its final stage.

There are five main phases for the fire to pass one another as follows:

1- Fire beginning phase:

In this phase, the fire is initiated and there will be a small visible smoke that one can see. In this case the fire could be extinguished by small drops of water. It is the early beginning of the fire.

2- Fire smoldering phase:

In this phase, there will be a dense smoke that is created and there will be an incomplete combustion process that generates carbon monoxide gas (CO). In this case the fire couldn’t be extinguished using small drops of water, but rather it could be extinguished by a fire extinguisher agent. A fire protection system comes handy at this point.

The smoldering phase may continue to smolder for hours.

Fire detection systems and fire protection systems are designed to detect the fire in these early stages.

3- Fire flaming phase:

In the flaming phase there is a complete combustion process that will result in generation of Carbon dioxide gas (COIn the flaming phase there is a complete combustion process that will result in generation of Carbon dioxide gas (CO2). Firefighters and fire protection systems in this stage are facing the continuing fire that is not easy to extinguish and need more effort from firefighters to use all tools they have to contain the fire.

4-Fire flash-over phase:

In this phase an explosive fire spreads rapidly to all rooms of the building. It is like ignition to the final stage which is the total fire phase.

5- Total fire stage:

In this phase the fire has reached larger building parts. Firefighters are concentrating their effort for keeping the fire In this phase the fire has reached larger building parts. Firefighters are concentrating their effort to keep the fire from spreading.

Firefighters are concentrating on saving and protecting the surrounding buildings and trying to keep the fire apart from any further reaching.

A good fire alarm detection system should be well designed to guarantee minimum time to detect the fire in early stages, a good fire protection system should be in place.
